It's rare, but sometimes we have to make a major change to a journey, or cancel it. We'll make every reasonable effort to let you (or your travel agent) know as soon as possible. If we've written to you about a change to your specific journey, that update applies to your booking and takes precedence over the general information here.
What counts as a major change?
A different departure date, departure point or destination (more than 50 miles from the original)
Confirmed departure or arrival time moving by more than 12 hours, or 5 hours on a day trip
The train, or a suitable alternative, not being available
Cancellation of the whole booking
Your options if we make a major change or cancel:
accept the change we offer, or
travel on the same journey on another date, or choose an alternative journey with a price adjustment (subject to availability), or
cancel and receive a full refund.
If we make a major change or cancel within 56 days of departure, we'll also pay reasonable compensation, except where it's due to circumstances beyond our control. Full details are in our Booking Terms & Conditions, section 9.
Changes to the route, stopping points, menu dishes, excursions or a steam locomotive aren't major changes. If we offer you an alternative station because a stop can't be served, that's our change, and it's never treated as you leaving the train early.
